Gotham 4x9 : Let them eat pie review
Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.
This week's episode begins as we see the PYG once again in disguise as he lures homeless people into his crusade just so he can kill them. It then moves to Gordon who is making his way to his new office. Complete with Captain James Gordon on the door. Bullock is still bitter and heartbroken over what his partner done to him in last week';s episode. He accuses Jim of not knowing what is right for Gotham and had he killed Penguin on that pier all that time ago instead of letting him live who knows what the city would be like. Jim tells him he would have made the exact same decision even if it was today. To which Bullock exits the room and Captain Gordon takes his seat.
Penguin visits Sofia and it's easy to notice that he is on to her and really suspects that she is the one who payed off the mayor to promo Gordon to GCPD captain. Sofia plays this down obviously but she ends up confessing later into the episode. Penguin convinces the kid Martine from last week's episode to spy on Sofia and at the end of the episode he sees Sofia and Jim kissing to which he tells Penguin who really looks heartbroken. Hopefully this leads to the badass side of Penguin that we've seen before as that really makes for such amazing TV.
I wouldn't be talking about this episode without mentioning the PYG in detail and wow he really stole this episode in so many different ways. Switching outfits, praying on his victims and just being downright creepy at others he is a character that is hard to keep your eye off. The Gotham writes have really done him justice and the actor playing him is just brilliant in the role. Everything from his voice to his mannerisms is spot on and the dinner scene where he presents Sofia and her guests with pies filled with the organs of his victims is honestly one of the best scenes Gotham has ever produced in my opinion. He turns from a mad man to a singing PYG in a matter of minutes. His singing moment is absolutely hilarious and easily the highlight of the episode. Of course Jim Gordon makes the save and finally brings him to justice to which the media thank him for keeping the promise that the GCPD will indeed bring in the PYG.
Onto Bruce and he awakes with a hangover and talks with Alfred who reminds him that they are supposed to be celebrating a tradition Bruce and his father used to do while he was growing up. It involves rocks and as Alfred and Bruce are sitting down to do so Alfred tells Bruce the story of how his father saved his life. Bruce of course has no interest in this and takes the car keys leaving Alfred behind in a sort of wooded area. Alfred of course snaps and heads back to the mansion where Bruce is having a party, Tommy Elliot tries to square up to Alfred but he flat out threatens him and with that everyone leaves. Bruce tells Alfred that there is nothing he can do to help him as he avenged his parents but still doesn't feel any different about it. I like this side of Bruce of course it isn't going to last long but it is fun while it is lasting.
I loved this episode, Gotham is truly at it's best when it involves completely bonkers villians and the PYG was no different. I just hope the series continues on a high from here on out. Oink! Oink!
