Gotham 4x8 : Stop hitting yourself review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

This week's episode starts as we see Ed in the middle of the ring in Cherry's club in the narrows dressed up as Penguin. This of course is all just part of the act until Grundy arrives and his latest fight against a masked man begins. The masked man gets quite a few shots in as Grundy starts having memory flashes of when him and Tabitha were together. He manages to overcome this and ends up winning the fight. More on this whole situation later.

Jim Gordon is called to a meeting with the city's Mayor who offers him a promotion to Captain of the GCPD. Jim right away feels guilty over this as Harvey of course is the acting captain. He doesn't want to stab his long term partner in the back but towards the end he does what is needed to be done and takes his rightful position as the new captain of GCPD. This was a long time coming and it does hurt seeing the relationship between Jim and Harvey hinder over it but this was always going to happen. It's later stated that Sofia was the reason that Jim got his promotion and not just because of the work he had done in last week's episode. She pushed to have him promoted as Harvey was a liability to both himself and the cops as she herself tells Jim at the end of the episode. Jim is not pleased with this and proceeds to not celebrate with her before walking out.

More on Ed and Grundy now and as Penguin is informed of what Ed is doing he sends the Sirens ( Selina, Barbara and Tabitha ) to go kidnap him and return him to Oswald. As they arrive they see Ed and Grundy in the ring and Tabitha proceeds to try and talk to Grundy in the back after the match but she is called away as Selina has captured Ed. Ed manages to weasel his way out of their capture even if momentarily as he proposes that his greatest fighter (Grundy) faces Tabitha so Grundy V Tabitha it is in the squared circle. Things don't go Ed's way however as Tabitha manages to defeat Grundy as once again he gets memory flashes and even calls her Tabby before she straight out KO's him. This is when Firefly shows up and threatens to burn everyone if Ed isn't delivered to Penguin soon. Firefly is defeated within seconds of saying that as Lee shoots her fire tank and she goes literally flying across the room. Lee also finds out that Cherry the owner of the club is actually an informant for Penguin, she tells everyone and Barbara ruthlessly shoots her right into the head. An instant kill. As the Sirens leave without Ed we see that Lee has been crowned as the new leader of the club given that she is their doctor and the people practically look up to her.

I enjoyed this episode. Sure it wasn't amazing in any way but it was definitely solid. 2 things really hurt it though in my opinion. Where is Bruce? and where is Professor PYG? I know Bruce is not in every episode but PYG should have at least appeared if even towards the end. Besides those 2 little nit picky things this was a good episode and I look forward once again to next week.
