Gotham 4x7 : A day in the narrows review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

This week's episode starts off as we see Jim sitting down in the captain's room to which Harvey calls him out on. As they are talking a delivery service arrives in the GCPD with 44 identical boxes each filled with a pig's head. 44 heads for 44 out of 45 cops. Why 45? well that is because Professor PYG doesn't want to kill Jim he wants to make an example out of him. More on Jim and PYG later.

Bruce Wayne hosts a fundraiser and basically is now acting like a complete a**hole to everybody including Alfed. Given that he has killed someone this is probably the best route they can go with Bruce now. Let him be the billionaire playboy that he is from the comics. He really lives up to that name in this episode though. As he is as the fundraiser a girl he used to go to school with asks him does he want to go somewhere to which he agrees. She takes him to a house and inside we're re-introduced to Tommy Elliot aka Hush. I really hope Gotham develops the friendship between Bruce and Tommy this season as it could be really interesting. There's another guy in the house also who turns out is just a flat out jerk to whom Bruce even imagines beating the crap out of. You can see him clenching his fist as the guy talks s**t about Alfred. Nice to see Master B still has a soft spot for Alfred. Later in the episode as they all head to a club Bruce just buys the place and invites them all inside except the guy who was talking s**t about Alfred. Bruce even takes the guy's sunglasses and rubs it in his face something fierce. We then see him partying it up hard, making out with the girl and just being the billionaire playboy that we all know and love. This was genuinely brilliant and one of the highlights of this episode for me.

Back to Gordon and PYG and Bullock and the rest of the GCPD learn that PYG has been operating out of the narrows which is basically the homeless side of Gotham. They go in but just find bodies left for them by PYG they interrogate a couple who tell them that they saw PYG leaving in a hearse. They manage to save a cop and as him and Jim ride back to the GCPD the cop tells him that he remembered PYG saying something about justice to which Jim right away knows he is talking about the courthouse in the narrows. As he leaves the cop tells Jim that he is one of the good ones. Remember that as it is important soon.

So Jim heads back into the narrows by himself but is ratted out by Bullock to Penguin who shows up along with his new henchman who I think should have been deadshot. We don't find out his name but he claims he never misses his shot and later he gets shot in the eye which could explain why he'd wear a face mask. But nope Penguin flat out murders him at the end and that's him gone. A serious missed opportunity. More on Jim and as he is surrounded outside the court by GCPD and Penguin's goons he is phoned by a blocked number. Turns out it's PYG and it was HIM who was actually the cop Jim was talking to in the ambulance earlier. It was all a ruse to get him to lead the GCPD and Penguin into a trap in the courthouse. Jim realizes it's PYG when he says the same line as earlier. ''You're one of the good ones Jim'' this was such a genius twist that I did not see coming at all. Props to Gotham for this one.

The GCPD and Penguin's guys enter the courthouse but of course walk into a trap just as Jim said they would. Jim of course comes to the rescue and saves a lot of lives in the process. Later back in the GCPD as a guy is brought in with a Penguin license a cop rips it apart and says these aren't welcome anymore before nodding to Gordon. This was such a great moment and you'd be hard up to not be filled with pride for Jim. After so long of trying he finally has the cops on his side again.

This episode was honestly amazing and hands down the best episode this season. The story flowed perfectly and the characters developed brilliantly. This is the Gotham that I love!
