The Flash 4x1 : The Flash Reborn review

Before starting this review I just want to let everyone know that there will be big *SPOILERS* for the episode ahead. With that being said let's get into my review of The Flash's Season 4 premiere.

First off I have major issues with this episode. Firstly why do they say it's 6 months since Barry left and went into the speed force when it was just over 4 months? I know that's a small issue to have but still it doesn't add up. We start the episode off with Kid-Flash and Vibe who are hot on the tail of meta human peek-a-boo a returning meta from season 1. It was nice to see her back but she didn't really do anything as she was apprehended in a matter of moments. As the team celebrate another victory a samurai flies down and attacks Kid-Flash and Vibe. We later find out that it wasn't actually a samurai it was robotic samurai or as Cisco called it a Samuroid. More on the samurai later.

We see Caitlin who is now working in a bar she seems to be completely normal again without little to no explanation as to why. We later find out that she is struggling to keep her inner Killer Frost out. That'll be interesting for sure to see how that plays out. Killer Frost is a seriously cool villain (pun intended) and this show needs her that way at least in my opinion.

Cisco comes up with a solution that he's been 'working on' for months to get Barry out of the speed force using the speed bazooka from last season after making a few modifications with Caitlin's help. The plan doesn't seem to work at all first but soon we see a familiar color scheme coming speeding out. It's Barry and Cisco's plan did work. Later the team is informed he was found in Keystone city so they go visit him at CCPD to which we find out he has completely gone all beautiful mind on us as Cisco puts it. He says a lot of mumbling but one thing did intrigue me. He mentioned something about being out of diapers. Could he possibly have seen into his future in the speedforce and found out about the Tornado Twins? the twins him and Iris have in the comics? it would be so cool if we got an episode set into the future where we meet them.

But other than 1 or 2 little mentions I didn't like this at all and it was just pointless really especially given how easily Barry snaps out of it towards the end of the episode. I feel like they could have at least stretched out the whole him having lost all notion of who he is and where he is for another episode at least. That's a BIG problem this show has. It tends to deal with issues in just one episode. When really if they stretched things out it would add a lot to the overall narrative Finally we see Barry speed back into action, especially faster than he was before he comes to rescue of Iris after she gets kidnapped by the samurai who we find out was just a robot being controlled by The Thinker! yes the big bad of this season. Already introduced at the very end. His design is very similar to that of Brainiac I thought. Even for a second I was like Brainiac? but no it's The Thinker! cool ending to what was a laskluster start to the season. It's so refreshing to actually see the big bad of the season right off the bat. That was another problem had for the past 3 seasons. Too many reveals and wondering of ''who is that under the mask?'' but this is definitely a step in the right direction.

The Flash continues to just slip slide and fall short of the mark. Continuing on from season 3 which is disappointing because the first 2 seasons were so much fun. Here's hoping things pick up now that Barry is back.
