Supergirl 3x1 : Girl Of Steel review
Before starting this review I just want to let everyone know that there will be big *SPOILERS* for the episode ahead. With that being said let's get into my review of Supergirl's Season 3 premiere.
We start off with a dream sequence similar actually to that of the one we just saw with Clark in that new Justice League trailer. We see Kara and Mon-El in a wide open area surrounded by a mass flower bed. Kara walks to a mysterious woman who we find out later is actually her mom as she says it herself. Her mom has been re cast as Erica Durance who people who've watched Smallville like myself will know as Lois Lane. She'll definitely be a good addition to this cast proceeding she sticks around of course.
The episode really begins with a car chase through the streets as Maggie and Alex are hot on the tail or an armored truck just about to capsize them when Supergirl arrives and saves the day as she does. We learn that Kara as been distancing herself from everyone even going as far as to say that she hates being Kara Danvers this causes her to go as far to quit her job at Cat.Co. A funny moment happens also as we find out that Cat Grant is now Press Secretary of the United States. She throws a funny little dig at Trump and the whole global warming situation. She doesn't namedrop Trump but it's obvious that was about the whole scenario. Shame we probably won't see much of Cat this season as she has always been one of the best characters on this show.
The Girl Of Steel statue in honor of Supergirl's great service to the city is is reveled at an event hosted by Lena Luthor who now actually owns Cat. Co. as we find out in this episode there is a new business man in National City with a ruthless and a cut throat attitude he wants to buy Cat. Co. but it turns out Lena is the one who buys it. Right away she recruits the just fired her self Kara Danvers and now we have those 2 working together. That'll be interesting because A Kryptonion and a Luthor never really get along for that long. That will be fun to watch develop over the season.
Alex seems to be having cold feet ahead of her wedding to Maggie because as she says her dad won't be able to walk her down the aisle so she does what I think is the best scene in this episode asks Jon / Martian Manhunter to do her the honor of walking her down the aisle to which he gladly excepts. A mysterious woman appears at the Supergirl statue reveling and right away I noticed that it was Reign the big bad of this season. It looks like she doesn't really know who she is yet given the ending of this episode which was quite the cliffhanger to end on. I don't know much about the Reign character from the comic but I feel like she has to be better than the past 2 big bads. Whom were very weak at least in my opinion.
All in all this was a solid start to the season, nothing incredible or anything but still it was a good watch. Looking forward to seeing how things develop further this season.
