Gotham 4x6 : Hog day afternoon review

Be warned there will be *SPOILERS* involved in this review. With that being said let's get into it.

Going to start this review off by saying that this week's episode of Gotham was absolutely brilliant. It is this show back at it's absolute best. One of the reasons why this show was such a big success in S2 and some of S3 was because of the villains. Lots of Batman villains done with comic accuracy and it was just a whole lot of fun. This episode reminded me of that and I loved it so much.

Professor PYG has arrived in Gotham, killing cops who are on Penguin's payroll and dressing them in severed Pig heads, seriously creepy stuff but like I said I loved it. We see PGY in his warehouse / slaughterhouse prepping a PYG head for his next victim while we hear opera music blaring in the background to which he hums along. This was so similar to the Arkham Knight video game and just the overall tone was seriously creepy. PYG honestly feels like a perfect fit for this show and he has another episode next week which I can't wait for now.

Lee agrees to help Ed regain his memory as we learn that in return for being a doctor for the fight club she runs her own practice in the narrows for people who were affected by the Alice Tetch virus. She's running low on medication so that's when she agrees to help Ed as he has been making money from Grundy fighting. Speaking of Grundy he fights his way to the top of the fight club and basically becomes it's top attraction which in turn helps Ed make a lot of cash. I like the dynamic between Lee Grundy and Ed and I'm excited to see what happens between them all over the course of the next few episodes at least.

Onto the whole Penguin and Sofia storyline and I'm just going to keep this short. I don't like this at all, the actress Crystal Reed who plays Sofia just isn't believable at all at least in my opinion. I wanna see the badass and crazy side of Penguin that we saw in season's 1 and 2. But instead we get an almost loved up Oswald as we see him struggle with the thought of her lying to him. He goes as far to have Zsaz spy on her to find out what she is up to. Later Penguin accuses her of lying to him and buying property to start a war against him. She did put some property but it turns out she has opened an orphanage for children. This was out of the blue but obviously Sofia is up to something and to be honest I don't like this storyline at all. Without this going on in the episode this would have been the perfect Gotham episode but nope it just ways it down a bit.

More on Professor PYG and the actor who plays him is just spot on. One thing I love about Gotham is how good their casting choices are and this is no exception. He's creepy, funny and just downright scary at times. I can't wait to see more of him next week and hopefully he isn't killed off so we can see him again in the future. More episodes like this and Gotham will be back to it's best.
