Gotham 4x1 : Pax penguina review
Before starting this review I just want to let everyone know that there will be big *SPOILERS* for the episode ahead. With that being said let's get into my review of Gotham Season 4's premiere.
Set 3 or so months after the end of season 3, season 4 picks up more of less from where things ended with Bruce on a rooftop protecting innocent civilians like Batman would!! all this goes down as we see Ra's Al Ghul watching from the distance he knows Bruce is the true heir and he will stop at nothing to see him take his place as The Demon's Head.
Skip to Penguin and we find out that he now fully controls the underworld and has negotiated successfully with the city's mayor to produce licences for criminals which will basically legalize crime in Gotham securing an all time low crime rate for the city. Jim Gordon of course being the hard faced cop that he is, is automatically against this and wants to put an end to Penguin once and for all given all the dodgy deals he has going on and the fact that he is in the mayor's pocket.
Highlight of the episode easily has to be the scene where Bruce visits GCPD to talk with Gordon and he appears practically out of nowhere and then promptly disappears again like Batman all to the confusion of Gordon. All little nods to Batman and I just love it.
Jonathan Crane is back and man is it good to see him back. Totally screwed up over what his father injected him with in the first season it is so good to see the would be master of fear back in Gotham. We only see him for a split second at the very end as scarecrow but he already looks menacing and Gotham really has no idea what is in store once he unleashes his fear toxin upon the city.
Ivy Selina Tabitha and especially Victor Zasz all play good supporting roles in this episode also especially Zasz who is now Penguin's right hand man and the guy who will flat out kill you if you're found to not have a license. All in all I'd say this was a great way to start Season 4 and I can't wait for more. Next week's episode looks very Scarecrow heavy which means it's going to be one to mess with the head. Welcome back Gotham it's good to have you back.
