Together review

Image
Starring  real life married couple Dave Franco and Allison Brie comes Together a body horror unlike anything I've ever seen. The story follows a couple who move away from the city to a secluded wooded like area. Upon exploring and out hiking they stumble (quite literally) into a deep, dark cave. Deciding to weather out the storm brewing they stay over night but upon drinking from a well located in the middle of the cave all sorts of grissly horrific things quickly begin to happen.  I love body horror movies, it's one of my favorite sub genres of horror and as of late we've gotten some real bangers like last years The Substance. Well now it's the turn of Together as Dave Franco and Allison Brie deliver quite the experience. Once it all begins to unravel again (quite literally) Together becomes an absolutely bonkers piece of cinema that really needs to be seen to believe. The chemistry between Franco and Brie is as you'd expect undeniable and they really make it all...

Materialists review

Image
From writer / director Celine Song comes Materialists. A movie more so about dissasembling romance rather than putting it together. Starring Dakota Johnson as a young ambitious match maker in New York City who finds herself torn between what seems to be the perfect match and her ex boyfriend. Right off the bat it's clear that won't be your typical rom-com infact it's pretty much the opposite of a rom-com in many ways as it really tries to be super intelligent and portrays it's characters with many flaws. The emphasis here really being on the rich-poor divide and high-end dating.  Dakota Johnson is excellent in her role and carries the movie with ease and a hint of grace even if you're supposed to be rooting for her you sort of feeling yourself really hoping for her character to succeed in both life and in love. Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans play fill out the romantic triangle as two characters who couldn't be anymore opposite if they tried. Both do a great job ...

Weapons review

Image
From Director Zach Cregger of Barbarian fame comes Weapons one of the most visceral, heart pounding horror movies of the year. The story is quite peculiar as one night at 2:17 am in the morning an entire classroom (except one student) just up and run of their homes vanishing into the night. Right off the bat we've got a fascinating mystery and one that unravels, and unravels in more and more unbelievable ways as the movie progresses. I for one loved Zach Cregger's movie as long term readers of this blog surely remember it was one of my favorite movies of the year a few years back. Well it's safe to say that Weapons will be high up on my favorite list this year as it is bold, intense and utterly captivating cinema.  Performance wise it is pretty much flawless with Josh Brolin and Julia Garner putting in incredible feats of acting both playing pretty troubled and flawed characters. Not to mention how this narrative is told as it tells it's story from each main characters ...

The Naked Gun (2025) review

Image
Besides horror and Superhero movies comedy / slapstick is one of my all time favorite genres. Nothing really hits and satisfies more than a really good comedy movie. And with The Naked Gun original being one of the all time best I guess it's only fitting we get a 2025 reboot / sequel starring Liam Neeson as the son of legendary actor Leslie Nielsen. Set in the modern day The Naked Gun is a hilarious romp right from the get go as the movie opens with one of the most funny, well done and overly un-serious intros for a movie in quite some time. The story follows Neeson's Dectective Drebin who must save Police Squad from closure while also stopping a high profile tech maker from unleashing something terrible onto the world. Truth be told the story is secondary here, it's not where this movie shines at all as the plot is basic as it the movie itself literally tells you mere seconds in.  The Naked Gun franchise has always been known for it's many gags and visual comedy and ...
