Lilo & Stitch (2025) review

Image
The original Lilo & Stitch came out all the way back in 2002 and overtime it has become a true Disney classic. So as is the norm the past few years a live action retelling / remake is in order and I can now confirm that not only is Lilo & Stitch one of the best to date it is also one of the most meaningful and heartwarming too. The story follows a young Hawaiian girl named Lilo who befriends a runaway Alien whom she names Stitch all while attempting to reshape and reconstruct her broken family bond with her sister. The story is really simple but it is the characters and interactions that shine so bright. Special mention must go to the two 'alien's on Stitch's trial who are the real comedic relief here and they're great! The casting of Lilo is pretty much spot on as not only does newcomer Maia Kealoha bring so much heart to Lilo but also so much playfulness and humour. The almost immediate bond she has with Stitch or to give it it's official name, Experimen...

Mission : Impossible - The Final Reckoning review

Image
Mission Impossible is one of my all time favorite franchises of any genre. The things Tom Cruise has done to elevate this series to the levels it is at is nothing short of remarkable. Fast forward to present day and the Final Reckoning has arrived but is it a good send-off for Ethan Hunt and the IMF or will it be mission failure?? The Final Reckoning's story picks up almost right where Dead Reckoning ended with Ethan Hunt in possession of one half of a key which gains him access to the original source code of a deadly AI named 'The Entity' Hunt is refusing to give up the key to any and all authorities instead he has gone dark only turning to his IMF friends.  The setup is simple as it's a continution so it really feels like Dead Reckoning just ended and boom we're off again and that's what the pacing feels like here. Tom Cruise and everyone else involved has once again set the bar not just for action movies but spy / thrillers and not a moment of it's runt...

Final Destination Bloodlines review

Image
Bloody, gory fun is how I've always summed up the Final Destination movie series. Now 6 movies in after the first that released 25 years ago we have a sort of origin of how death's grip on a family all began. This movie opens up with a fantastic trip down memory lane as we get what is easily one of the best openings in the series. Featuring a young couple who are attending a high rise building named The Skyview it all begins to go wrong when they're 400 plus feet high into the air the glass begins to break under people's feet as they're dancing, partying and having a good time. It all falls on one young woman named Iris to save the day when she gets a premenition of what is about to happen and boy oh boy does something happen as the entire high rise building topples, turns and is blown to smithereens. This entire opening was brillaintly done and really set up the movie in probably the best way possible.  Fast forward to modern day and we meet Stephanie who has bee...

Thunderbolts* review

Image
The latest MCU entry is Thunderbolts which in a sense is a far departure from what has come previous it's a lot more grounded and very character focused which took me by surprise. Thunderbolts follows a group of 'villains' who are lured into a deathtrap only to find out that they all been played leading to them forming a new superteam which includes Florence Pugh as Yelena, Bucky Barnes, The Red Guardian and others. All coming from pretty broken lives and ordeals it is in these moments where their past is confronted where Thunderbolts is at it's absolute best.  Returning from Black Widow we have Florence Pugh who is the quote unquote leader so to speak. Her performance is flawless here and easily the standout of a movie that is really solid but it doesn't really go any further than that. The character moments and interactions are well done but there's times where it's just so utteruly boring I lost interest on more than one occasion. Doesn't help that ...
