The Strangers : Prey At Night review

Based on true events The Strangers : Prey At Night is the sequel to 'The Strangers' that came out a good few years back. It follows a family of 4 whose's road trip takes a dangerous turn when they arrive at a secluded mobile home park, there to stay with relatives they are shocked to find out that it's abandoned with next to nobody present only a letter from their relative and the keys to one of the mobile homes. Set mainly in darkness things take a sinister turn as three masked strangers turn up and begin to terrorize the family members having previously killed the relatives who were staying in another mobile home. That's the jist of the story and while it's not terrible it definitely isn't all good either.

The acting is as you'd expect from a movie like this. Nothing outstanding but at the same time it is very tolerable for a movie of this type. Complete with jump scares a plenty and some pretty horrific scenes at times the second half of the movie is a lot stronger than it's lackluster set up that dragged on for far too long. The masked strangers do actually look pretty scary in their own right and given this is based on true events that just makes it all a lot more tense to watch knowing that people actually went through such an ordeal as this. It probably didn't exactly happen the way it does in the movie but nevertheless it's enough to give you a slight shiver down your spine.
Horror movies have never been my favorite type of movie experience to begin with. And while the original Strangers was pretty good this is a decent if flawed follow up that will keep you engaged for the better part of it's 80-90 minutes running time. You can see a lot better but on the other hand you could see a whole lot worse. On the recent horror movies I've seen this ranks pretty high up on my list. Enjoyable!
